I must haz a dum today or something, because it SEEMS like this should be an easy thing.

I'm running Articles under Revolution here:

    http://www.hellbendermedia.com/projects/tips/

Click on the latest Tip to see an example of what I've got.

At the bottom of each tip is a chunk that is defined as:

    <hr />
    <p style="background-color:#c63; padding:5px; float: right; width:200px; border:thin solid black;"><strong>Tags:</strong>
    [[+article_tags]]</p>
    <p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong><a href="[[~37]]">See the Big List of Tips</a></strong></em></p>
    <p>[[+comments]]</p>
    <p>[[+comments_form]]</p>

However, when I look at the page, there doesn't seem to be a sensible sort of "input a comment" interface. All I see is a single text box labeled "Name:" and containing "Default Admin User".

I can't tell how to actually kick on real comments.

Advice? Suggestions? What thing am I missing?

    Thanks!

Still can't get this thing to go all the way to the people-can-now-comment line.

Any advice? Anyone else using Articles?

When I click on one of the tips comments link, it goes to a page with full commenting available with captcha. Are you not seeing this?

It could be due to your being logged into the manager. Try viewing the site in another browser. The only thing that looks weird to me is the long list of numbers below all the tips on the page you posted here. Do those go to tips? They need some titles perhaps?

Edit: I see now that you're seeing yourself logged in as "default Admin User". There's some permissions that you are missing for your default user for the front end. When you're viewing the site, you're seeing it as if you're logged in to the front end as the default admin user. Using another browser will show you what everyone else sees but you'll want to add a web context access setting to your admin user. I think... Bob would be better able to explain this for you. See http://bobsguides.com for information about security and permissions. [ed. note: frogabog last edited this post 14 years, 1 month ago.]

D'oh! It DOES appear to be working, although it tells me captcha doesn't work, that I need a key.

I have the key, but can't find instructions on the Articles help about how to install it.

The key is in the System Settings. You can search for recaptcha. I believe that it is actually in the Quip namespace.

You're very welcome. System Settings is a pretty neat place (especially when you start making your own)

I'm very VERY new to MODx, so I'm especially appreciative -- I'll have to browse through System Settings sometime...

                    Welcome to MODx!

Here's an overview of Settings and Lexicon and MODx. This is important because many Addons use the System Settings and Lexicon. Detail can be found on the RTFM.

System Settings are a place to store settings that are effectively site-wide and may be accessed by any Resource, Template, Chunk, Snippet or Plugin in MODx. Many Addons add their own System Settings, but add them to a namespace to avoid conflicts and for ease of finding/setting. These also are accessible to all of the same things. When you install an Addon, go to System Settings and check the namespace. See what it has, so you can configure it properly.

System Settings are layered. That is, they are the default for the Site. If you have multiple Contexts, a Context may override the settings for any requests within that Context. That is, if a Chunk is used by a Resource in the Context, it will get the value for the Context, rather than the System. If you don't understand Contexts, yet, don't worry.

Further, you may also override Context and System Settings with User Settings. These will always take precedence, if present. So, even if the Setting is in a Context, if the User has the same Setting, all parts of MODx will use it instead (just like Contexts).

That's all there is to it! Here's a note on Lexicons because some things are stored there too. People often can't find something because they check System Settings or Lexicon, but not both.

The Lexicon is basically a dictionary for MODx. Generally, if what you are looking for outputs text, you should check here first. Like System Settings, they are split into namespace. Unlike System Settings, they are not layered in the same way. This means you do not have a Context Lexicon, a System Lexicon and User Lexicons. They CAN be set up (with Addons) but for the most part, it just checks the language and sees if there is an entry for that language.

So, if its text you are looking for, check the Lexicon first. Then check the System Settings. If it is not text, it will almost always be in System Settings. The one PURE indicator is [ [%name ] ]. That is always the Lexicon. [ [++name] ] is always a System Setting, Context Setting or User Setting (almost always in System). [ [+name] ] is a placeholder and may be anything which will require you to search a little. [ed. note: fuzzicallogic last edited this post 14 years, 1 month ago.]

                      "Are you not seeing this?"

Aw man, I am, but it's confusing as hell.

The name is right where I expect it to be, but the rest of the commenting content is way down below the content. That threw me off.

What controls how wide this is, because there's got to be some percentage setting somewhere I must fix?

                      Thanks!
