I'm on my 3rd user account because the Register/PW Recovery system for this website is not working as intended (at least for me).

First, it wouldn't allow me to login with my username and password that I was sure was correct.

Second, when I try the password recovery system, 4 times out of 5, the confirmation link takes me to a 404 page. (an actual link it sent: http://modx.com/login/password-reset/?lu=blah&lp=123456)

Third, the one time it did work, it took me to a page to reset my password, even though the E-mail clearly states that you can use the provided password to login after you have clicked the confirmation link (If successful you can use the following password to login: Password: 123456). After "resetting" my password using the form and trying to login, I get the message "Your account has been blocked by an administrator."

Can anybody shed any light on this phenomenon? I'm afraid to logout of my new account for fear of never getting back in again.

Check your permissions. When you create a new admin user, you've got to set the user Role as Super User or you will see this kind of login error. The original admin user from install should have the role set but I've seen installs that neglect to do this. IIRC it was an installation from cPanel QuickInstall that did this last time I ran into it.

There are System Settings that limit the number of failed logins, and then apply a default of 60 minutes time out. This is why you're seeing the blocked by administrator page. You can change this if needed. [ed. note: frogabog last edited this post 14 years, 2 months ago.]

Thank you for the reply Frog, but please let me clarify. The problems I am having are for this site - modx.com. The login system doesn't accept my credentials, and the password recovery system doesn't work for me either.

Ah, well that's a different case altogether. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I couldn't log in yesterday (and also a couple of times last week). Just assumed there were some changes being made or something up with the server.

I haven't had to create new credentials though; logged in with no problems now.
