    Hello,
Using Rev 2.2.4-pl and Login 1.8.0-pl
I am trying to set up user registration. I have used the Bob Rays excellent book and followed the instructions carefully, but after filling in the registration form and clicking Register it simply returns to the form and no registration takes place.
I have checked that &submitVar is set up correctly.
Even if I deliberately put an error in a field no error message is rendered. I have tried on two separate servers but it won't work on either.
Any suggestions as to where I should look?

I have tried everything here. Is there some sort of bug associated with this?
My entry in the Registration Resource is:
      <p>[[Register? &submitVar=`registerbtn` &activationResourceId=`58` &activationEmailTpl=`QPGClgnActivationEmailTpl` &activationEmailSubject=`Please activate your account` &submittedResourceId=`59` &usergroups=`Member` ]][[$QPGClgnRegisterForm]]</p>

All elements exist as does usergroup.

      Has anyone got this working???

Thanks for buying my book. smiley

Yes, a number of people are using that. I don't see anything obvious that's wrong (assuming that 'submitVar' is set correctly in the form. You might want to post your registration form. I'd also suggest installing QuickEmail just to make sure that mail is working on the site.

You might also take a look at these extras: Subscribe (by me) or SubscribeMe (by Mark Hamstra). The Subscribe extra will do most of that for you: http://bobsguides.com/subscribe-tutorial.html. I have not used Mark's extra, but I'm sure it's excellent and it has the added feature of allowing paid subscriptions.

Subscribe also works with the Notify extra so that you can send email updates to selected subscribers and notifications to Twitter and Facebook.

Wouldn't the snippet need to be called uncached?

Yes, I think that could be the problem.

I was just about to implement Bob's suggestions when your emails came through. Thanks Susan - your suggestion has helped. Both servers are now sending an Email.
However, The call is filling the subject line correctly but there is nothing in the body. I am using the standard lgnActivateEmailTpl code as below but just renamed:

              <p>[[+username]],</p>

<p>Thanks for registering! To activate your new account, please click on the following link:</p>

              <p><a href="[[+confirmUrl]]">[[+confirmUrl]]</a></p>

<p>After activating, you may login with your password and username:</p>

              <p>
              Username: <strong>[[+username]]</strong>

              Password: <strong>[[+password]]</strong></p>

<p>If you did not request this message, please ignore it.</p>

              <p>Thanks,

              <em>Site Administrator</em></p>

I am finding that Subscribe if far more complex than I need. The options offered by the standard setup are sufficient for me - if I could just get the body of the Email to render

QuickEmail shows that Email is working OK
Everything else works - the user is created correctly - just the email body doesn't appear in the email sent.
It makes it a bit hard to confirm registration :-(

I'd suggest editing the emailTpl chunk chunk and cutting and pasting its name into the tag (making sure there are no spaces on each end and the parameter is marked with back-ticks). The names are case-sensitive and it's easy to get them wrong because they're so long.

                  Thanks Bob,
That was it. I had checked that carefully but not actually replaced it. I think when I originally did it I used the same copy and paste in different browser windows for the different servers, duplicating the error. All fixed now - thanks smiley
I note that on another thread - (Login snippet - working around all-numeric-username bug) you were working with someone on a solution for a problem with an all numerical username.
Interestingly this is not a problem for me, and I am using exactly the same Modx and Login versions. I can successfully register and activate an all numeral user name.

Thanks again [ed. note: bobd72 last edited this post 14 years, 1 month ago.]
