How is the [*content] variable built?

sotwell, thank you for your help and being patient with me, but it's not working.

I am trying to use getPage and getResources just to get a feel for the system in my template, but nothing seems to work.
All I get is empty page.

I'm reading the documents you provided, and they seem to make sense but I can't seem to get anything to work. like the example of putting a simple [[getResources]] in the template should (according to the docs) give me a raw output of an array. I get nothing. I add &parent=`7` (the id of my blog container) I get nothing, when I add &resources=`7` I get nothing.

into the template here (attached) but nothing works.

What am i missing?


This is driving me up the walls.

Remove the placeholders from the content, and put in something like

just to make sure you're getting something on the page.

Then try

You have to set the showHidden property since Articles resources are set to not show in the menu.

First things first: Your getResources call should be uncached. You do this like so (notice the exclamation):



Next, your screenshot does not show any of your parameters, so I can't see if they are done correctly... parent should actually be parents (plural), in case you are checking for multiples.



Now, some things you should know about getResources... You will only get an array if you have results. You will only get results if they are published and not hidden (by default). This means that you must have published Articles in the Container. Your screenshot doesn't actually tell me if you have some.

Finally, when you make the changes, make sure you "Clear Cache". This is in the menu.

That's bizarre but it worked.

I would have never guessed that my blog posts are hidden, as I set them to " published" when writing, plus in the overview all items have an "unpublish" button. So naturally I would never have guessed this &showHidden=1 flag would neet to be set..

Something you should know: Hidden and Published are two different settings. If your posts are hidden, then something else is causing them to be hidden.

There are three settings that can control whether or not a page is visible;

• deleted - marked for deletion, but not actually removed from the database
• unpublished - not published
• hidden from menu - it won't show up in a menu or other listing snippet, like getResources.

Articles items are automatically set to be hidden from menus. All of the listing snippets like Wayfinder and getResources have properties to allow them to list "hidden" items if you want them listed for some reason.

Oops! I forgot deleted!!! Crap. It might be because I never delete anything, but I going to assume its because I'm a ditz.

I didn't know Articles are automatically hidden. That's good information.

Actually I had forgotten about it myself, then something jogged my memory of seeing it mentioned somewhere in another post about using getResources on Articles.
