I'm currently hosting at One.com but unfortunately they only allow me to create one MySQL database.

When installing ModX, it gives me the following error:
    Connecting to database server: Success!
    - Checking MySQL server version: OK! Running: 5.1.63-0+squeeze1
    - Checking MySQL client version: OK! Running: 5.0.8-20102224-$Id:65fe78e70ce53d27a6cd578597722950e490b0d0$

Checking database: MODX could not create your database. Please manually create your database and then try again.

I can only create one database at One.com, already tried to manually add a table for ModX, but this doesn't solve the issue. Does anybody know any workaround to solve this issue?

MODX needs it's own database, there are many tables within. A table in another database will not work.

What is the one existing database being used for? Can you buy additional databases or upgrade your hosting?

You can use the same database. Just make sure you aren't using the same table prefix (modx_ is the default prefix). Use the same dbname, username and password for your existing database.

Took me I while to figure that out too. My hoster has simplified the MySQL configurations so it looked like you had to use a different database for every php application in your website, e.g. a php guestbook. But then I found out like, Susan writes, you can stuff more than one application in the same database. Just make sure you use unique prefixes.
