Having massive problems updating both modx & packages
If I try to update modx 2.1.5-pl -> 2.2.4 all manager pages are blank but have the top navigation present.
If I try to update some packages before updating modx 2.2.0 I get a popup error "action_err_ns" whenever I click on update for each package.
I've tried:
- restoring & re-installing multiple times
- tried installing 2.1.5 -> 2.2.0 -> 2.2.2 -> 2.2.3 -> 2.2.4 ~ no love there...
- I've tried toggling the compress js/css
- clearing the cache [my backup & restore scripts actually do this as well]
- checked permissions many times
- tweaked php settings [gave more memory, checked safe mode etc]
completely stumped!!
now no matter what the cache popup always remains blank and does not clear the cache...
help!

Now I get the "action_err_ns" when I try to modify system settings, I can't even load the settings in the manager
now I'm getting this on a "new" install when trying to connect to the database...
Connecting to database server:
No processor specified!
well found out what the action_err_ns is supposed to say:
core/lexicon/en/action.inc.php:$_lang['action_err_ns'] = 'No action specified!';
Getting a lot of this in chrome dev tools:
Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'prototype' of undefined ext-base.js:7
Uncaught TypeError: Cannot read property 'prototype' of undefined ext-base.js:7

Have you manually cleared out the cache folder? Don't rely on MODX to do this 100%, especially on an upgrade/server move. Clear out your browser cache or fire up a private browsing window and then give it another go. Hope this helps...
I wont recommend clearing out cache with modx. Clear everything under your /cache , it will do.
I've solved part of this, the 'action_err_ns' was caused by php/apache wigging out and setting the post_max_size to 128 BYTES ... probably I forgot to add the 'M' when setting these. So now I can use the manager again but still cannot upgrade the manager or gallery.
- I can try to re-install [upgrade] 2.1.5 -> 2.1.5 and still wind up with the partial blank manager pages & javascript errors. [I've tried every browser I have as well]
Still no love, getting set for another marathon after 5 tonight.
And yes - I do clear the cache manually from a shell.
About the modx clear cache function not being reliable:
- I find that if there are huge files in the cache [like a 1G+ error log] the script won't run
- It does clear the cache, just doesn't look like it because directories in the cache folder are not removed.

I had this exact thing yesterday - blank manager screen on upgrade from 2.1.5 -> 2.2.4, it was even showing the 'old style' login screen and nav bar. Some pages, like 'New Symlink' worked ok but most did not.
I went through all the suggestions above and I deleted the manager theme and re-installed, still no luck.
Then I released it was picking up the CSS from the Analytics plugin (WTF?); I deleted the Analytics folder from /manager/templates/ and it fixed it.
I uninstalled the plugin then re-installed.
An easy fix but not the first place I would have expected to look TBH.
*scratch*scratch*scratch*
really??
I have not been able to get back to this, but the analytics dashboard plugin is installed - I will definitely give it a try.

Finally got this fixed.
I really don't know what the problem was, but I solved by deleting the manager/ directory & upgrading again ... seems to be fine now.
