Thanks in advance for any help!

    MODX Revolution 2.2.4-pl (traditional)

    Database charset: utf8
    Database collation: utf8_general_ci

    Remote Database version: 5.1.61-log
    Remote PHP Version: 5.3.15

    Laptop OS: Mac OSX 10.6.8
    Laptop Application server: XAMPP
    Laptop Database version: 5.1.44
    Laptop PHP Version: 5.3.1

I'm not sure what I've missed above or how to get the information so please tell me what I need to add.

I'm almost in tears; I thought back-end development might be difficult but had no conception of how unbelievably frustrating it can be. I don't think my job is at stake because my traditional design skills are good but I am close to giving up.

I'm a Mac user but have given up on MAMP. Turning up to work and finding that your databases have disappeared is not fun.
Now I'm trying XAMPP on Mac OS X 10.7.? [I'm not at work right now]. The plan is for me to develop locally on my work iMac for the privacy and virtually unlimited space.
Now that I'm using XAMPP I'm trying it on my laptop at home [Mac OSX 10.6.8] and all seems fine.

However, at some stage I'll have to transfer my site(s) to and from a webhost.
Today, as an experiment, I've tried to transfer a really, small, really simple self-tutorial site from a webhost I use for my personal stuff. I created the site there with MODX 2.2.4-pl Traditional install.
I've followed the help on the rtfm as best as I could i.e. cleared cache, flushed permissions, packaged the home folder, exported the database, downloaded to my laptop, changed the permissions on core/cache, core/export, core/packages, changed the MySQL login details and corrected the paths within core/config/config.inc.php, imported the database, copied a fresh Setup folder into my laptop's home folder and then ran the upgrade.

I can't even get to the manager login page. The following errors come up:

Warning: rename(/Applications/XAMPP/xamppfiles/temp/wrtYllxZh,/Users/justinwalsh/Sites/from_jw.net/core/cache/mgr/smarty/default/73b0beda8f9f7a7b7b18c4170ca07a9c6a2cf956.file.login.tpl.php) [function.rename]: Permission denied in /Users/justinwalsh/Sites/from_jw.net/core/model/smarty/sysplugins/smarty_internal_write_file.php on line 42

    It's all driving me mental.

    Any help appreciated.

    ta,

    Justin
