I'm trying to find the best way to achieve the following.
Clients wants a mixture of the following on the homepage of their site
1) Automated latest resources - use getresources with a chunk to format summaries of latest resources
2) A section on the front page where they can manually add select resources - getresources with TV's and a chunk again to formate the results
So is the following the easiest way to do this:
- Use a simple getresources call for the automated section.
- Then for the manually added resources set number of text tvs on the homepage into which the client can place the resource id number of each resource they want showing on the homepage. Then within the template are a number of getresource calls which pull in a single resource, drawn from each TV.
The problem as I see it.
The client will not get the document id thing. The best solution would be a TV like Resource List but there are many hundreds of resources within this site making the drop down box horribly long, so it would have to be essentially an ajax search box which pulls in resource titles as the client types in the title of their desired resource - is there anything like this or any way I can configure a TV to do this?
Second problem is that this solution places a finite number of manual articles they can add (how ever many TVs I have configured for them and doesn't really give them much flexibility.
The final problem is that it means quite a few getresource calls which isn't very efficient on a homepage.
So any thoughts or suggestions on a better way of doing any of the above would be very much appreciated.
Anyone? Have I not been detailed enough or is this just a bit of a cloudy area?
A single TV with a comma-separated list of page IDs (no spaces) should work, though not very convenient for the client. Put a tag for that TV in the manual getResources tag:
&parents=`-1` &resources=`[[*pageList]]`
I'm not sure what happens when you drag and drop a resource from the tree into a TV, but it's worth a try.
You might also look at the MigX package, which might allow you to show the client a list or grid. I haven't used it for this, but it might work.

PLEASE, PLEASE specify the version of MODX you are using.

Thanks BobRay for responding - some good suggestions there I'll try them out now and let you know which I find to be the best solution. As you correctly picked up on the key here is simplicity for the client so dragging and dropping resources might be interesting.
