Error displaying pages until cache cleared in same browser [SOLVED]

I've got a site that won't display until the manager is logged into and the cache is cleared. But not if the cache is cleared in another browser, it has to be cleared from the same browser that is being used to display the site. This behavior is very strange. The site is in development in a subfolder, with FURL's enabled with the standard .htaccess. Removal of .htaccess does not solve this problem. There is no .htaccess in the root.

Any ideas of where to look, or what to consider would be very helpful. Thank you.

Do you have this tag in the head section of all templates?

<base href="[[++sitr_url]]" />

If there is no .htaccess file in the root, the Friendly URLs System setting has to be turned off.

If that's not is, it might be a plugin or snippet that is corrupting the cache, or possibly a permission or ownership problem with the cache directory.

First, check the MODX error log. If there's nothing informative there, start disabling plugins one at a time (most recently installed first) until it goes away. If it doesn't, try disabling snippets in the template by putting a space between their opening brackets. You'll see the snippet tag in the output, but the snippet won't execute.

All templates do have the

 <base href="[[++site_url]]" />

I re-enabled an .htaccess in the root, no change.

Error log shows nothing and now package management won't uninstall packages. I keep seeing this stuff in the console, package remains and is marked as installed. cURL is enabled.

I've seen that message and it often doesn't mean what it says. Unfortunately, I can't remember what it *does* mean.

Check the path in the modx_workspaces directory in the DB with PhpMyAdmin.

Try deleting all files in the core/cache directory, if you haven't already.

I just solved this less than an hour ago by deleting the new resource groups I'd added for editors. Everything looked right in them, but evidently something wasn't right. I did try to add a web context to the one I thought might be gorking it but that didn't work. I figure I'll just start from scratch again and be very careful this time.

When I figured it out, I felt pretty stupid for not realizing it was a permissions issue. Of course viewing pages when logged into the manager works. I'd locked everyone else out by trying to create resource groups for special members and a special member editor. Duh!

I did suggest that what you described was impossible. wink

Don't feel bad, humans are built to recognize patterns, even when they aren't there. It's really easy to make wrong assumptions about an intermittent problem. I've been there many, many times.
