    Hi,

I had to create a site quickly for a local art exhibition (http://saloarte.org). I used Wordpress/Buddypress because it had to be done quickly but it's awful to work with because of the little hacks to make it function.

    The Spec is as follows

    Two languages for everything
Artists have their own profiles and galleries that they access by logging in
Moderated comment system for normal web users (I want people to be able to just quickly write a comment without being logged in)
    Admin Blog
    Admin Galleries
    SEO control over titles
Friendly urls (the one thing that the current site has perfect ie: http://saloarte.org/artists/angel-vera/gallery/ )
    Activity Stream (optional)

I've created a few sites with Modx using custom database tables, TV's etc so am reasonably proficient but if anyone has some recommendations with Extras that will help and the overall approach that would be good.

    Thanks,
    Andrew
    • Quickly from what you have gathered you'll probably want to take a look at:

Quip - provides the commenting system
Articels - this one is great as you can do a direct export/import from Wordpress
Login - well to add the user login including profile management
Easy2 Gallery - adds a nice gallery presentation and backend management

Not sure exactly what you want with the "Activity Stream" and don't want to go the wrong direction. Some of the items you've listed are supported without any additional extras depending on how you want to manage them like SEO, Friendly URLs.

Those should get you on a good start however I'd be remiss to not full think additional custom programming would be required to fully meet your requirements, especially when you need to extend content management capabilities (gallery for artists) to front-end users.

      Hope that helps.
