First time install of basic Rev2.2 on Windows7 laptop, with xampp and mysql working but get the following error when I type localhost/modx/setup

"FATAL ERROR: MODX Setup cannot continue. To use PHP 5.3.0+, you must set the date.timezone setting in your php.ini. Please do set it to a proper timezone before proceeding..."

Have set this to europe/london and changed the lat and long but no progress. Any help would be appreciated.

Are you sure you got the php.ini that is being used? Put a file in the same directory with a phpinfo() function call, and check the path to the php.ini that it's using.

Thanks for this. Not too sure how to do what you requested but I searched for php.ini in C directory and there is only one, which of course I edited earlier. Does this help at all?

You can go to System -> System Information and click in the little "view" link next to phpinfo(). That will show you the path to the php.ini file that's being used (and a lot of other stuff).

          ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PLEASE, PLEASE specify the version of MODX you are using.

Um... he couldn't get it installed, so there's no Manager wink

What I had in mind was to create a file named info.php, with this in it
            <?php
            phpinfo();

Then upload that file to your setup folder, and in the browser address bar put
            localhost/modx/setup/info.php

That will give you all kinds of information about your PHP, including paths to the default php.ini as well as to the php.ini being used (if there are any others).

It will also show the default date.timezone setting as well as the one actually being used.

                Thank you for that:

Configuration File (php.ini) Path no value
                Loaded Configuration File C:\xampp\php\php.ini

                date/time support enabled
                "Olson" Timezone Database Version 2009.18
                Timezone Database internal
                Default timezone Europe/London

                Directive Local Value Master Value
                date.default_latitude 31.7667 31.7667
                date.default_longitude35.2333 35.2333
                date.sunrise_zenith 90.583333 90.583333
                date.sunset_zenith 90.583333 90.583333
                date.timezone no value no value

The zenith settings are wrong but would this matter? Other wise correct
timezone in one table no value in the other.

                My directory structure is: C:xampp\htdocs\modx

Within the htdocs folder there is another xampp folder and folders for

wordpress and joomla (which work with the existing arrangement). Changed the date
format (php.ini) a couple of times, upper/lower case etc with same error statement.
Although no path is shown for php.ini the file is read hence the time error.
                Suggestions greatly appreciated.

As you can see, the local and master values are showing "no value". That's your problem right there. Something isn't configured correctly in your php.ini file.

                    Susan, things have moved ahead.

Puzzled that my values were over ridden and with no other php.ini on my system, I decided to reinstall xampp and php with upto date versions. It worked first time, so I don't know if the problem was old versions or something deep within my computer conspiring against me.

So all I have to do now is get to grips with modx.
                    Thanks again for your help.

Oh, it was definitely the computer. It's all a huge conspiracy to drive web designers and developers crazy so they can take over the world, since we're obviously the only defense the world has wink
