Help Retrieving User Setting

Awesome! thanks bob that worked perfectly, I was able to create the user and set tree root id of the user.

Great. I'm glad it worked for you. You probably know this already, but for others -- tree_root_id is deprecated and completely ignored by current versions of MODX.

There's no reason you can't use it yourself in any way you want, but be aware that just setting it will no longer do anything in MODX.

Hey Bob,

Are you sure its deprecated, I asked Jason about and he said that it was still in use and not deprecated at all.

Interesting. That would be good news -- I think it's a good idea.

I was definitely told that it was deprecated and ignored (I think by either Shaun or Jason) and I put it on the errata page for my book. , The only written reference I could find to that was here (and I don't know where these docs came from): http://www.scribd.com/doc/100541846/ModX-Revolution-Docs-20101007

Looking at the code, I see that it's being used in MODX 2.2.4 and is not marked as deprecated.

Certainly good news, it is defiantly a useful setting for restricting access to certain resource(s) especially with the code that you helped me write. (or you wrote I integrated

Right. I'm starting to wonder if I dreamed that tree_root_id was deprecated.

As you probably know, the resources hidden with tree_root_id are not really protected. A user in the Manager can still see and edit them if they can guess the Manager URL to type in.

If you've got a user that's doing stuff like that, you have bigger problems.

Hey Bob,

I think its on page 2 we made a plugin to check the tree_root_id and then deny them.

Sounds good.

Actually, I'd like to see tree_root_id enforcement in the core for both the front end and the Manager. It's a really easy way to avoid dealing with ACLs in many situations (especially member-specific pages).
