Correct way to set formit error placeholders.

I have a custom hook for formit that does some file processing/uploading etc. I was wondering what the correct way to set the formit error placeholders is,

i.e.
```
[[!+fi.error.myformcontrol]]
```
I would set in my snippet using:
```
$this->modx->setPlaceholder(
     'fi.error.myformcontrol', 
     $this->modx->lexicon('extdata.error_files_not_allowed_mp3')
);
```
Though I get the feeling that isn't quite right... what is the correct way?
