User Profiles

    Hey guys I'm using revolution and I'd like to incorporate a few social networking aspects into my site.

    #1 User profiles (Need users to be able to login to their page and update height/weight/ description/ etc.) I don't want them to be able to see the admin panel either.

    #2 These pages need to be public

    #3 I'd like to be able to upload pics/vids either to my modx site or from youtube with tags for users that will show up on their profiles and or point to their profile. Perhaps a public video section with tags of the users name so that when they click the name it will be redirected to their profile. Also on their profile the video/pics will display as well.

    I know this is a lot of random stuff but is there any plugins that would do all of the above.
    I'm sure there are a few that would do some but for me it is all or nothing. I can't just get 75% of the way there, if that's the case I have to find a new CMS. But, I'd like to stick with modx as this is what i used 90% of the time wink

      If you add those as extended fields in the User Profile, you should be able to use the Profile and UpdateProfile snippets in the Login package to do what you want.

        How including username tagging and video portions?

          I think both tags and paths to the video files (or URLs to YouTube) could be put in extended fields in the User Profile.

              So I'm attempting to figure out the extended fields. I understand that upon registering you can have extended fields populated or you can manually add them in the manager for each user.

              However, my site is set up so that I create profiles for the users, they can't do it themselves. I'd like to be able have the extended fields created and applied for every new user I add without having to do it manually each time in the manager.

              I could do it by adding them on the front end using the registration form but I'm looking to import nearly 5000 profiles. Doing this by hand is out of the question. Any ideas?

                Should I just add these fields to the DB directly and call the values like I would with stuff that's already in there?

                  If you're creating the Profiles in code, it should be as simple as this (after the Profile exists, but before it's saved), IIRC:


                  <?php
/* get the extended array to preserve existing data in it */
$extendedFields = $profile->get('extended');

/* set the new values */
$extendedFields['field1'] = $value1;
$extendedFields['field2]' =  $value2;
//etc.

/* set the extended fields in the Profile */
$profile->set('extended', $extendedFields);

/* Save the Profile to the DB */
$profile->save();
