Is it possible to get an old version to work with Evolution 1.0.6 ?

Reading the forum it seems it did work with Evo in the past.

I'm sure that there was an Evolution version, though with fewer features (it would have a version number below 3.0), but I can't find it in the repository. I'm not sure if I can find the Evo version -- I think it was in my SVN repository, which is gone. Maybe someone else can upload a copy of it.

There's a good chance that the Revolution version would work in Evolution if you pasted the code and installed the files as described here: http://bobsguides.com/ezfaq-tutorial.html, but I haven't tried it.

BobRay - Thanks. I did unzip and find the components as per the tutorial and wondered if it was possible to add it in 'long hand'. In the end I resorted to some code I'd already got as per the link above. Just about to read the replys....

If I get it to work 'long hand' I'll post an update here.

Decided to try the tutorial for the EZfaq 3.3.0-pl, on traditional install Revo 2.2.4
The tutorial describes a file structure that does not exist in the package. installed the package successfully but it is missing: Lang (folder) and "en.inc.php". and missing: ezfaq.inc.php

Biggest difference is path location... Should I manually change it???
Tutorial path description: /assets/snippets/ezfaq
Actual path: /assets/components/ezfaq

I don't have a "snippets" directory yet. Should it be: /assets/components/snippets
Or just: /assets/snippets

Other differences in the package - under /lexicon/en there's a file: default.inc.php
But that file doesn't appear to be on the installed version at all.

In the package just above the "lexicon" level is another file called: snippet.ezfaq.php
This file too is missing from the installed version and not discussed in the tutorial.

Is the package changed? Or is the tutorial not updated for this version 3.3.0?

I think you might be reading the MODX Evolution install section.

For Revolution, you just install it through Package Manager and all the files will be placed where they belong. You shouldn't ever need to edit or move them (except possibly the CSS file). The Revolution version is completely controlled with Properties -- no config file.

Thanks for the reply Bob! It does seem to be working.

Based on your reply, I conclude the rest of the tutorial is specifically for Evo, not Revo... The instructions are impossible to follow since they reference files and folders that don't exist in Revo.

The Revo instructions at the top suggest "Be sure to read the sections on Creating the FAQ Content Document, and Customizing the FAQ page." They ALL reference the Evo files or show illustrations from Evo with no explanation for Revo. For the most part I got through creating the FAQ document despite different references for everything.

Then on to creating the snippet... Surely this is required in Revo too? the tutorial says:
"To fill the content of the snippet, there are two ways to go. The first is the most foolproof:

1. Find the ezfaq.inc.php file (in the /assets/snippets/ezfaq directory). Highlight the code in that file and copy it into the body of the snippet you just created. Click on "Save."
2. Put the following in the body of the new snippet and save it:

return include 'assets/snippets/ezfaq/ezfaq.inc.php';
?>

The problem is that the file doesn't exist for Revo. The path suggested above doesn't exist. I could change that to reference the other file, "snippet.ezfaq.php", that is included in the package, but it did NOT get installed with the extra. If that is the file I should reference, do I make a "snippets" directory for it or put it under "/assets/components"?

On the MODX site, this addon is described relative to Revo, and links there direct people to your tutorial that describes Evo... I'm confused. Thanks for clarifying!

You're right. The instructions were written a while ago (probably at around 3 a.m.) and are definitely confusing. I'll have to fix that when I get time.

In Evolution, you have to create the elements and resources yourself and cut and paste code from the files where necessary.

In Revolution, you just install through package Manager and all that is done for you. You don't need to create the snippet or deal with the snippet file because the snippet is already installed.

For default operation in Revo, you just need to create the FAQ resource (with the snippet tag) and the FAQ content document. The tag style and the Manager interface are different for Revolution, but the steps are the same.

There is no config file in Revo. You can look at the table of properties in the tutorial and just set any that you need to change in the snippet tag. You can also set them (and see descriptions) on the Properties tab when editing the snippet. If you edit them there, they'll be overwritten if you update the package, so it's best to just put them in the snippet tag (or create a property set -- see some of the other snippet tutorials for info on how to do that).

The CSS file is: assets/components/ezfaq/ezfaq.css

If you need to change the CSS, you can copy that file to another file in that same directory (call it myezfaq.css), and put this in the snippet tag:
