    G'day,

I have a web site running Etomite Content Management System 0.6.1 Final (PL:4) (Prelude).

I'm looking at moving it to the latest version of MODX. Any tips would be much appreciated.

    Best regards, Lloyd Borrett.

Lloyd. I can safely say there's no linear path here. Etomite and MODX Evolution diverted over 7 (nearly cool years ago. I think in your case the simplest way to handle things would be to do a content migration. If you could output all your content and it's available meta-data to CSV, you could then use ImportX to import it (http://rtfm.modx.com/display/ADDON/ImportX) into a new install of Revo. I haven't personally done this and don't know how much you can accomplish with ImportX. You will need replacements for all your addons.

As Jay says, you're far enough back that the process will be similar to porting in a non-MODX site, although you'll have a head start on understanding how MODX works.

This is somewhat simple-minded, but may give you some ideas: http://bobsguides.com/porting-your-site-to-modx.html.

The easiest way to get your template in MODX is to use something like HTTrack to scrape your site and then manually get your assets in there along with your content, it might seem like a laborious process but it really isn't.

            G'day,

The time has finally come when I really need to update this old Etomite based web site. (I have quite a few other Etomite based sites still running, but the largest and most complex one now needs to be changed sooner rather than later.) I can no longer keep patching it to keep it running on old versions of PHP and MySQL. I need a solution like MODX running on more up-to-date versions of PHP and MySQL. Using the old versions is holding back the Zen Cart based online shop part of the web site.

There are some 195 pages in Etomite and quite a few custom snippets.

I'm looking for a MODX developer who can help me to setup MODX Revolution in my XAMPP (v1.8.3), GitHub and SmartGit based dev environment.
Current dev environment is Apache 2.4.10, PHP 5.5.15 and MySQL 5.6.20.
Current hosted live environment is Apache 2.2.29, PHP 5.3.29 and MySQL 5.5.42.

Then help me to migrate the old site to MODX Revolution, i.e. pages plus snippets. Some of my old snippets would just be replaced by up-to-date equivalents. Others would need modifying for MODX.

Right now I'd be happy to just get it running using the current old non-responsive template. Stage two would be to move to a responsive template. Stage three would be to start using the new features of MODX to enhance the website. Stage four would be to use either MODX or WordPress to add a blog section to the website.

Is there someone interested in taking on this project?

            Best regards, Lloyd Borrett.

              G'day,

Well I had a go at installing MODX on my dev setup and it's up and running. But I still need help understanding the new MODX features and how best to rebuild the existing Etomite site in MODX.

Anyone interested in working with me to get it happening?

              Best regards, Lloyd Borrett.

Try getting an export of the original database and importing it to the new MODX database, then run the MODX install again in upgrade mode. Copy your template and image files to the MODX assets folder. That should get most of the site in place. Your snippets will need work.

Actually you should be able to get away with just importing the site_content, site_template and site_htmlsnippet tables, then run the install in upgrade mode. That should get most of the site in place.

Your dynamic content, like menus and news or blog lists, will need to be re-done with Wayfinder and Ditto.

                  G'day,

Well I've read a few post about moving from Etomite to MODX and tried them.
Setup a etomodx database and brought in the old etomite database data.
Tried an upgrade. MODX reported that it couldn't find some tables. Seemed these were the emotite tables.
Problem seemed to be the etomite_ table prefix.
Tried renaming the tables without the prefix and trying again, but no luck.
Everything I've tried since just results in a '500 Error - Site temporarily unavailable.'

Could this be better done as a two step process, i.e. Migrate from Etomite to MODX Evo, then migrate to MODX Revo?

Surely there is some former Etomite, now MODX web developer out there who would like to get paid to help me with this?

No doubt there are going to be much better ways to do some things in MODX Revo than they are currently being done in my Etomite setup. So I'd like help with that as well.

                  Best regards, Lloyd Borrett.

                    G'day,

Okay, so this time it has to actually happen. No more putting it off.

Is there a developer of MODx based web sites out there, preferably with some experience of Etomite CMS, who would like to be paid to take on this project for me? That is, to migrate my main Etomite CMS based web site to MODx Revolution.

You can see the site running at www.scubadoctor.com.au. The diveshop part is Zen Cart, but most of the rest of the site is Etomite CMS.

                    Best regards, Lloyd Borrett.
