Using getresources to return a discrete list of TVs

I have a project with stock container with resources. The stock items are in categories, and can belong to multiple categories, so a product could be in category 1 and 2 at the same time for example.

I want to use getresources to create a menu of product categories which can then be clicked to display the resources in each category, but i have tried every which way and cannot get it right. And even when I hardcode the menu I have problems with session cookies when i log out of the manager? Can anyone help a modx revolution 2,2 newbie? asap really as i'm short on time, tia

How do you define the categories, are they Resources, too?
Or are they TVs? How do you connect Products to Categories?

I'll post up my solution next week when i've finished off the site, it may help - just involves using autotag and the comma delimiter to allow the client to add categories on the fly and generate the main menu dynamically, very pleased with it after a couple of days' head scratching
