getResources TV properties in chunks

I've had a search around and can't figure out how to do this:

I have a chunk called mainMenu and I have a template var called mainMenuItem which has a property called "link".

I am trying to pass a value to the TV "link" property from the mainMenu chunk, so inside my mainMenu chunk I have:



This displays the mainMenuItem TV but doesn't populate the link property, HOWEVER if I pass the link property from the initial getResources call, it DOES populate the link property, as follows:



My question is, how do I populate the property of the template var from within the tpl chunk?
