I want to redirect visitors to a 404.html page.

I am on revolution 2.2.2 with furls enabled

I made a 404.html page and set the id in the furl section.

Here's the trouble, when I now go to www.mydomain.com/doesnotexist it shows the proper 404.html content but the url still shows www.mydomain.com/doesnotexist and it shoudl show www.mydomain.com/404.html

How can I get any not existing page to redirect to both the 404.html content and the proper url www.mydomain.com/404.html

    Thanks

    Oliver

I think you are misunderstanding how this is intended to work, which is exactly how you describe it working. If you go to /doesnotexist, redirecting to the 404 page would return a 200 header, which is the found status code. This would tell google that the page exists and index the contents of your 404 page at that URI. The intention of a 404 page is to return it's content at the originally requested URI with a 404 status code in the response. This indicates that the specific URI you tried to visit is not found.

OK, thanks opengeek, that means it works as it should.

I checked the source of the page and see that indeed it shows the 404.html for the canonical.

While I am at it: thanks again to modx for an incredible cms, I have used evolution for more than 5 years and have just started testing with revolution, a bit of a learning curve, but man alive do I still love modx!
