Hi, I'm having troubles getting modx to work ... after many trials this is what noticed :

The server already has an htaccess in the root folder with "AddHandler cgi-script .php"

    Case 1

I disable all htaccess files in the root folder and the manager folder

    Result :

a - I get a blankpage for the frontend (I have just installed modx so I guess that is normal) and the page title is ok , which means it is only blank because no resource is created so far.

b - Manager is blank page with no title

c - If I try to access the folder where phpmyadmin is installed I get "PHP 5.2+ is required" (and php 5.2 is installed !

    Case 2

    No htaccess in root folder
In htaccess in admin folder i put "RewriteEngine Off
    AddHandler cgi-script .php"

I get 500 internal server adress trying to access manager

Same scenario but with rewrite engine "on" I get "you don't have permission to access the folder" trying to access the manager

    Case 3

htaccess in manager with only rewrite engine off results in blank page

htaccess in manager with only rewrite engine on results in "you don't have permissions ...."

I checked all permissions, everything seem to be fine .....

Anyone has any idea what could be going on here ?
    Many thanks

Can you describe your server setup? Is it a shared account that might be restricting or overwriting .htaccess files or something?

You don't need the MODX .htaccess file in the root unless Friendly URLs are turned on in System Settings (off by default). You may need the host's .htaccess file, however.

Were you able to run Setup successfully?

Hi, Yes it is a shared hosting ... I was able to run the install successfully, from what I see, the info got in the database, and when I try to go to the front end I can see the default page title "Modx - Home page" so I guess it is all fine, but there is a detail somewhere that makes it not work .... Any help would really be appreciated as this is for a client and it is a pretty nasty situation not to be able to sort somethng like this in a production environment .... many thanks in advance
