    I have a site with several [6 or so] user groups none of these groups need [or should have] access to the manager functions. Trying to get my head around this. So basically all they need in the context access tab [of the manage groups] is a web context access of "memeber" ~ there is no point is setting up roles for each group as they are only used if you want to give a user group manager access.

    Is that essentially correct?

    -thanks

      In Revolution, Roles are only important if you want to give different capabilities to different users in the same user group. If that's not the case, 'member' should be fine, though I would probably create a Role with an authority level of, say, 10 and give them all that Role in case I wanted it for future use.

      In Evolution, OTOH, Roles are critical in determining the users' possible actions.

      It sounds like the only reason you have user groups at all is to make it easier to find the users. Will these users be logging in anywhere? If so, and you're using Revo, that will determine what kind of ACL entries (if any) you need for them.

        Thanks Bob;

        I'm using Revo 2.2.2 on this install, and the end user has created a maze of groups/users/roles/etc... it got real confusing.

        The only purpose of the groups is for viewing content in the web context, each group has access to different sets of resources, and restricted from viewing others.

        Thanks for the clarification.

          It sounds like roles would be unnecessary for that (or they could all have the same role).
