Hello everyone,
When I try to use the filemanager or the fck-filebrowser, I get an error. The filemanager of modx is the better helpful, stating that I do not have 777 permissions. Which is in fact untruth, because they are 777.
I can only assume this goes beyond modx and may have to with some other permission of my host. Because on my test server on my comp (XAMP) , uploading works perfectly. I am testing on my host with a clean install of ModX 0.9.6...
Thank you for your time.

I have had clients who have had similar problems. The System admin had set up a user account for his "minions" and not set the upload permissions for those people (i.e. the use system configuration checkbox under user)
Other times I’ve seen that is when I’ve moved the website and not changed the settings under configuration.
Hope the problems are that easy for you to solve too

Additionally, on your web hosting account, you may have set up permissions for your username to have 0777 access. It is common for the web server (I am talking about Apache) to run as the user "www" or "nobody". PHP may be seen as that user, and if the "www" or "nobody" user does not have permissions in those folders, it might cause these warnings/errors that you are describing.

Tomorrow I am going to look at this with a fresh install and a fresh brain, and thanks for these comments sofar. I will try these leads out and see if I can pinpoint the problem better.
Ok, I can now specify things more clearly
- Host has PHP 4.4.0 installed
- I can use the "directadmin" console
- Problems ONLY arise when I try to create a folder, and then try to upload a file in aforementioned folder with the Filemanager (and FCK file browser also gives error). File manager states "Failed to copy file to destination directory - upload failed! Possible permission problems - the directory you want to upload to needs to be set to 0777 permissions."
- I’ve set the permissions in the configuration tab to new file permissions : 666 and new folder permissions : 777
- When I create a folder locally and upload it with FTP, I can upload files in this folder, no problem.
- When I try to change the permissions with FTP, on a folder that was created with ModX file-manager, I get :
550 myFolderName : Operation not permitted : /domains/mydomain.com/public_html/mydomain/assets/images/0755 myFolderName
[*UPDATE*]
With the filemanager that came with directadmin, I can confirm Dr.Scotty’s findings:
Directories created with ModX have the UID and GID (User ID and Group ID) => "apache"
Whereas folders created with FTP or sent with FTP carry my domain admin name => "myAdmin"
I can reset ownership with that filemanager, and then everything works dandy.
The only thing left being, how can I correct this?

Unfortunately that’s the way a lot of hosts are configured: php/apache and ftp users are entirely different and not members of the same group.
