Hi all
I’m starting with modx and, after having worked through the first 24 pages of the documentation and produced a few pages, I have a few Q’s:
1: how do I assign a page to be the index.php file (homepage)? I’ve tried shifting one new page up the document tree to the top and also assigning its’ document alias to ’index’ neither of these worked as the original homepage is still coming up first. (i’ve tried this on both a basic install and also with the sample website installed).
2: Where can I find the Admin Menus? It looks to me that some of the documentation is from a previous version of MODx and looks very different from 0.9.6 which is what I’m using - I can only see the document tree and editing area.
3: I want to create new folders but can’t see this option in the right-click menu, the way the documentation states
Any advice on these q’s would be very appreciated - I’d really like to use this cms as it seems considerably better at getting through to the template xhtml than others I’ve used... also has great reviews.
thanks

Hi,
1: Try setting the Site Start to the document id you wish to be your homepage .. in the Manager > Tools > Configuration .. Site Start is on the first tab
2: in the Manger, you should see a row of tabs across the top Site .. Resources .. Modules .. Security .. Reports .. clicking on any of these shows a submenu of options in the next row.. clicking on those should bring you to all of the admin menus that the manager has to offer
3: folders are actually documents, so you can just create a document. Then to make that document a folder, you can either check it’s "Container" checkbox (on the Page Settings tab when you’re editing the document) or just add another document underneath it (for example, Create Document Here from the tree’s context menu)
Hope this makes sense.
Welcome to the community!
Thanks very much for the reply, that’s a great help - my apologies for not responding before now.
Do you know if there areany modx training publications? I’ve had a look around but couldn’t find anything.
thanks

There’s a book that’s been published in Japanese, but other than that it’s pretty much the wiki, this site and a few other scattered tutorials around the net.

Thanks for the info - unfortunately my japanese doesn’t cut it.
