    Hi,

Everyone knows the manager preview doobie in the /manager side of things, right? My question is how do you do that? How do you load a site in a div like that and freely browse around the page in a page... I have read an number different solutions for doing this, but am curious as to which solution Modx uses. I’m thinking of loading product pages from a webstore into a div on the home page, giving users the opportunity to browse and buy in a mini shop, kind of thing. Or perhaps browse a category of products my client may be actively promoting at the time... etc,

Thanks for any pointers you guys may have on this.

      It’s just an iframe.

I strongly recommend considering the effect that pulling pages into an iframe may have on search indexing. If all that matters is the user experience, then it’s not a problem, but if you want decent indexing of that information by the bots, I don’t think pulling into an iframe is going to be too yummy for them.

iframes pretty unintuitive and not the ideal solution to any problem. But I think that how it’s used on the manager side is pretty much the only way it should be used: previewing output. Having a page inside a page will confuse the average user, remember that there may be people in your audience who have trouble understanding a single page!

hey guys, thanks for for your input, I don’t like iframes very much myself - and this is one of the few cases where I would not want bots/spiders seeing the content, it would literally be a way of "peeking" inside the WebStore from the front page, the section of the WebStore the user would be privy to would be specially designed for the iframe, and of course careful consideration would be placed on UID. It is too easy to confuse end users, especially when their credit cards are involved! I was looking for an unusual solution to an unusual problem, I’ll post back if it turns out nice and grab some opinions. smiley
