Answered Moved site: Problem with Manager and re-running Setup

    A couple weeks ago, I moved the company's website to a new host. Everything looked like it was running fine, so I thought I had no problems. Yesterday, I tried to edit a chunk and noticed some new behavior. When I click on any item under the 'Elements' tab, the resource tree refreshes and goes back to the 'Resources' tab, and the fields to edit do not show - that whole area of the page is blank.

    I thought running Setup again would help, but as a further complication, when I try it, I don't get the language selection dropdown or any sort of interface button, which means I can't go through the process. I attached a screenshot of that.

    I'm on one of Go Daddy's CentOS virtual dedicated servers.

    MODX Revolution 2.2.0-pl2 (traditional)
    PHP version 5.3.3
    MySQL version: 5.1.61

    Thanks in advance to anyone who has any insight.

    edit: sorry - one more complication. When I make changes to page resources (which I can still see), the change sticks, but isn't reflected on the live site. I'm a bit mystified. Is it possible that MODX is writing to one db but generating the pages from a different one…?

      Don't know about the setup problem, never seen that before.

      As for editing the resources, check to see if the "empty cache" box is checked on the settings tab for the resources you are editing. There's a bug, not sure which version it started in, where this gets unchecked sometimes. Not certain of the conditions which make it happen, but it's caused me some puzzlement before.

        as an addendum, some other pages in the manager that don't show anything includes Reports > System Info and Reports > About.

        I noticed that changes I made to Gallery items are reflected on the site. Text changes to individual pages continue to be ignored.

        The answer turned out to be manually deleting the contents of the core/cache folder. At least for the manager woes. [ed. note: althenry last edited this post 14 years, 3 months ago.]
