I've installed MODX Revolution in a folder of it's own in the root of my web site server and built a couple of test pages ... an example link to these pages would be like mysite.com/dma/index.php?id=3, rather than mysite.com/index.php?id=3

I was able to view these pages just fine until I tried looking at them in another browser, where I wasn't recognized as being logged in, and I come to a blank white page with a link that says "Click Here!" ... the link takes me to mysite.com/index.php

    MY QUESTION:
Am I able to have pages in a folder off the root like that? Or is it a *must* that MODX be installed in the root and all pages be in the root?

    Thanks for your help!

Yes, MODX can be, and is installed on subfolders all the time.

What is the content of your .htaccess file on the root and in the MODX subfolder? What is displayed on mysite.com/index.php? Nothing? Is there another installation of something on the root?

Additionally, what do you mean by not being recognized as logged in? Did login for the manager not work in the other browser? Viewing the site by typing the url including MODX subfolder should take you to the site itself, resource ID 1 (home). That won't require login. Add /manager to your url and you should see a new login page. Login won't hold up cross browser, you'll have to log in again.

The "click here" link is weird. It seems like that must be the 404 page. Did you set up a 404 page?

Make sure the pages are published. Unpublished pages return 404 and redirect you to the 404 page. Other than that I'm not sure...

          Thanks, guys.

I *do* have a 404 page setup on the root ... but *not* in the folder where MODX resides. And the pages *are* unpublished ... so I'll fix that.

The htaccess file in the subfolder is still "ht.access" ... should I activate that file? Mysite.com/index.php is, at present, a holding page ("Coming Soon") with my client's logo. Nothing else is on the root except some pages, the images folder, etc., etc.

When I said I wasn't recognized as logged in, on the other browser, I wasn't logged in to the MODX manager on that browser, so I kept getting the 404 page. On the browser where I *was* logged into the MODX Manager, I wouldn't get the 404 page ... so, I thought, "Oh! These pages aren't actually viewable by the URLs!?"

If you activate the .htaccess, make sure you also activate FURL's in the manager settings, or you'll get more 500 errors.

Unpublished pages are viewable, if you type in the full url. If .htaccess is enabled AND manager is set for FURL's you can use the FURL url. Otherwise, you'll need the php url to see them or use the view button from the manager.

For now however, I personally wouldn't worry about FURL's. Work with MODX a bit, and do FURL's later when you actually need it. If you set the manager to automatically create an alias or set it manually as you create each page, it'll all fall into place when you do enable FURL's.

I would not rename ht.access just yet (and when you do, you need to change the MODX System Setting enabling Friendly URLs).

Do you have this in the head section of all templates?

              <base href="[[++site_url]]" />

FYI, MODX will not use a 404 page file. As installed, all MODX resources are in the DB. If a page is not found, MODX sends you to the page (from the DB) specified in the error_page System Setting.

By default, it's the site's home page (resource 1). If you deleted that or it's unpublished, it could explain your problem.

PLEASE, PLEASE specify the version of MODX you are using.

Thanks again. I'm really enjoying the learning process of MODX!

I will definitely leave the htaccess file alone for now.

Yes. Bob ... I *do* have the base href tag in the head of all templates. And I did *not* delete the Home Page (resource 1) ... I made it a redirect to my holding page (index.php in the root folder). OH!!! LOL!!! THAT is the page I've been seeing that says Click Here!

PS: I published the pages I was testing and that solved the problem. One more MODX feather in my cap!

At present, I have 2 more problems I need to fix:

                1. My Reset Password page (in the Login setup) comes up as a blank page. I have the Chunk as:
                ((!ResetPassword? &loginResourceId=`1`)) ... something isn't right.

                2. When a new user registers, all resources are working great ... however, when they click the link, given to them in their email to login, they come to the Login page and a message says their account has been disabled -- I have to go into Manage Users and activate them manually. I want to make that automatic so, when they click their email link, they can just log in!

Call chunks with MODX tags. Chunks are called with the $.

                  [[$ResetPassword? &loginResourceId=`1`]]

I'm not aware of any reason to call a chunk like that uncached (!) but perhaps with login there is one. Otherwise, leave the ! out.

Did you look deeply into the docs for users and permissions and ACL's? If not, I suggest going digging into it thoroughly. The problem with users is likely related to permissions.

Thanks. I had to use "(" instead of "[" in my post to get it to show ... but the "!" was how it was presented in the tutorial, seen here:
                    http://rtfm.modx.com/display/ADDON/Login.Basic+Setup#Login.BasicSetup-ResetPasswordHandler%283%29

Hmmm ... I tried your code and got the same result.

I checked and Permissions are set according to the tutorial (linked above).

                    I don't know what ACL's are.

Best to read up here http://rtfm.modx.com/display/revolution20/Security before you proceed any further with login.

You can use the code tags in the menu icons above the entry field to wrap your code to post in the forum. Call it uncached if the example says to.
