Developing MODX site locally on Windows - installation issues

Hi,

I'm used to building sites locally using MAMP on OSX, but after losing the Mac machine I used to have I need to carry on working on a machine with Windows 7 installed.

I've tried both WAMP and XAMPP but both fail to install.

When I test the database server connection I get this:


Test database server connection and view collations.
Connecting to database server:
Could not connect to the database server. Check the connection properties and try again.

And if I ignore this and try to let the installer create a database I get this:


Fatal error: Class 'modAccessibleSimpleObject' not found in C:\xampp\htdocs\modx\core\model\modx\modaction.class.php on line 21

What's going on, or, what am I missing?

Try to create first an empty database (in PhpmyAdmin), -no need to create tables or anything else, (just the database) - be careful with the collation (should be utf8), give it the name you want ... Then use these infos when you run your install... The name of the database to use is the name of the one you just created.During install MODx should create its tables inside the DB...

Make sure your connection details are correct, and use the database user name in addition to the database name.

i.e. databaseUser_modxTable

For password, use the database user's pw. You may need to set up a user for the database.

Thank you, creating the database manually helped me get around this issue.
