I'm working on an update of a client site that runs on Pair Networks servers. Their PHP installation does not have ImageMagick, which I would like to use for an image resizing snippet I'm working on (as I have been completely dissatisfied with GD libraries jpeg compression). In order to do this, I have to compile a php-cgi and then add my own modules.

I have no problems compiling the php and installing the cgi and having it run. But I am having no luck in getting it to run the ImageMagick library. I have compiled and tested the library itself, but can't seem to find the magic combination to use it from my php-cgi. I've changed my php.ini extension_dir to point to every permutation of the path I can think of. I am also using the 'extension=libMagickWand.so' in my .ini and added the path '/usr/home/{username}/usr/local to my include_path setting.

If anybody has any experience with this kind of installation, I would appreciate any help you can offer, even if it's pointing to a blog post or forum that has some guidance.

As an alternative, if somebody knows how to achieve quality image compression at larger dimensions with GD library, I would be more than happy to scrap this endeavor and use what I have available. [ed. note: djad33 last edited this post 14 years, 5 months ago.]
