I am wondering if anyone can give me some insight on how easy it would be to modify and make changes, by using MODx. I am a graphic designer with basic html knowledge. Our company's website was created by someone by using MODx and unfortunately they are no longer here.
The problem is, I have the biggest headache trying to figure out how to use MODx. We are using Revolution 2.0.7.
I have been able to make basic changes, such as adding images or editing text. But, I have no idea how to edit Javascript or CCS. Will it be possible for me to learn MODx withing a couple days? Is there some type of tool for me to use? Will we need to hire a web designer?
It really depends on what kind of changes you intend to make. If you want to change the CSS styles beyond anything basic (eg. text sizes and colours), or the structure and functionality of the site then you're better off getting a web designer/developer with MODX experience to assist. Otherwise you might find yourself with a broken site...

The structure of your site, the HTML, is handled with "templates". In the Manager, you can create and edit these from Elements -> Manage Elements, and the Templates tab. Templates are simple HTML, with the dynamic (changeable) parts as MODx tags.
Like any HTML document, js and css files are loaded via HTML link and script tags. Looking at the template (or a "view source" of the page in your browser, for that matter) will tell you where these .js and .css files are located. You can edit them as you would for any website.
Embedded javascript is often contained in "chunks" (again in the Elements -> Manage Elements, this time the Chunks tab). In some cases, I'll use "snippets" of PHP code to load javascript only as needed for a single page. So exactly where Javascript can be edited or added depends on how the original designer did it. The trick is to look at a "view source" of the page in your browser, then find the corresponding locations in the template or the resource content, to see if MODx tags were used there or if the javascript is directly in the template or resource content.
Thanks for the advice everyone. I noted what you guys said and I'll see what I can do to go forward.
