    I am using GoDaddy for my hosting, and used the "Hosting Connect" to install ModX

    Here is my problem. I own two domains, and the way that Godaddy hosting works that out when you only have 1 hosting account, is by making one of them the primary domain, and then creating a sub-directory in the hosting account that points to the secondary domain.

    I tried installing ModX using the secondary domain name, but since the files are not at the true "root" of the hosting account, I had to un-install and I re-installed using the absolute path of the secondary domain. The problem is when I reference my site using the secondary domain, it wants to add that sub-directory to the path for each document.

    Here's a sort of tree view list of what is going on.

    /html <- root of my domain theausitnfamily.us
    --/robert <- sub-directory pointing to my domain robertlaustin.me (this is the domain I want to use when I send people to my site)

    Is there some way that I can change a setting in ModX to only use the secondary domain, or am I going to have to uninstall (again) and then change my primary domain name so that I can get this working the way that I want to? I may end up having to do that, and I really don't see any problems with it. However, I would rather not if I don't have to.

    To give you a better idea of the problem.

    I want to send visitors to http://robertlaustin.me/ and the main page shows up just fine, but if someone clicks on the "hobbies" page, it wants to take people to http://robertlaustin.me/robert/index/hobbies.html when in fact it should simply be http://robertlaustin.me/index/hobbies.html

    You can actually see the page if you go to http://theaustinfamily.us/robert/index/hobbies.html but if I can get away with not using theaustinfamily.us at all, that would be fine, I would be okay with that, if that is the only way to make this work.

      That depends on your hosting type.

      Only our Deluxe, Premium, Unlimited, and Ultimate hosting accounts can host multiple websites

        I'm not sure by your posting a reference to the support for Godaddy if you're an employee, a fellow customer, or someone who used to be, but I'll go ahead and update the info on this post.

        I just opened a support ticket to see if they have any suggestions.

        I have the deluxe plan.

        I also went into the DNS settings and turned on "Forward and Masking", so I hope this works, or the support ticket I opened will spark something

        The worse case scenario is that I will have to uninstall this ModX install (again, which isn't a problem because I'm wanting to resolve this issue before I spend any amount of time on the site), and a WordPress app that I have installed, then change my primary domain in my account settings. I really don't have reason not to do this, since I only really use the primary domain for emails (which are forwarded to Google Apps). But it's just laziness, and maybe a little bit of trying to figure out something complicated that doesn't happen in most typical ModX installed (prob 90% laziness and 10% curiosity/problem solving).

          The big question is whether you own the domain robertaustin.me.

          I'm not at GoDaddy, but most hosts I'm familiar with do it that way and MODX works fine in a subdirectory. Usually, all it takes is telling the host to point the desired domain name (assuming that you own it) at the subdirectory and running Setup. MODX will set the paths correctly.

          If the paths in config.inc.php are correct and you have the correct base href tag in the head section of all templates, you should be ok.

            @Bob

            Yes, I own both robertlaustin.me and theaustinfamily.us and they are both registered with GoDaddy and hosted by GoDaddy.

            I managed to turn on forwarding, as I stated, and I wasn't able to stay on-line and wait to see what happened, but I just got back on-line and it turns out that it helps solve the problem I was having with ModX giving me blank pages, or having incorrect links to the wrong (sub-)directory. But, now, this is me just being picky, all the links on my site say "theaustinfamily.us/pagename.html" and when I click on them, it goes to the page and shows the page correctly and the URL bar displays robertlaustin.me, but I would rather not have any reference to theaustinfamily.us. So, it looks like I'm just going to have to switch the primary domain on my account.

            I don't know why ModX didn't work the first time, when I told it to use robertlaustin.me - I thought there might have been some setting to change, but that's alright, I guess I'll just have to go through the work, and do it the "right" way after all.

              You really shouldn't have to change the primary domain to do that. As long as visitors come in via http://robertlaustin.me, that should be the site_url. If have a base href tag like this in the head section of all templates, those people should never see the family URL.

              <base href="[[++site_url]]" />

              For users who come in via the full url (with the family reference), you could have a rewrite rule in .htaccess to send them to the .me domain.
