    Hi All,

I don't want to do it but the guy I'm building the website for really really wants it so.....

I have used AddpopupLink 1.0.4 which pops up a window with mPlayer 1.2.0 in it to play the music. The problem is (well maybe it's a blessing LOL) that you actually have to click the popup link for it to popup.

I have used this approach because I don't want it to start each time a new page is clicked.

    My questions are:

Is there a way to make the popup automatic (without having to click the link)?, or

Is there a better way of doing this?

Thanks in advance for your help smiley [ed. note: muzzargh last edited this post 14 years, 5 months ago.]

Automatic popups are blocked by many browsers to prevent spam and for security reasons, so doing it in this way is pointless.

There are other three ways I can think of, the first is with frames, which is very bad for many reasons ( expecially for SEO). The second is by making the website in flash, which agan is not advisable, except in particular situations. The third is with AJAX (note: the WHOLE website needs to be in AJAX), this should be ok but it requires a lot of work. I did a website in this way but I am going to remove this feature, because maintaining the website has become a nightmare.

        Thanks for the reply smiley

I have explained that to my guy but he still wants it. Maybe leaving the clickable link is just the best way to do it.

What about a jQuery solution to 'click' the link?

You mean like colorbox, shadowbox etc? The problem is that those solutions will not work when the user change page. The only one that would work is the standard popup.

No, at present I have a link created on the page which I click, this opens the popup and the music starts playing. I can then navigate the site normally and the music in the popup keeps playing. So I'm asking is there a jQuery 'function' I can add to the page that 'clicks' the link when the page is opened?

Effectively making it an automatic popup, which will probably be blocked, but the functionality will be there if it's not blocked.

He has finally seen the light and decided that he no longer wants music. smiley
