I had modx installed in /var/www/ as the only application on an amazon box running Ubuntu 11.10. The only thing I've done that I have never tried before is to install fastcgi and apc.
Everything was running smoothly and I added a second virtualhost with its root directory within /var/www, i.e. /var/www/newsite. Then I realized this wasn't ideal, so to keep things tidy I decided to move the modx site into a subdirectory of /var/www as well.
After modifying the vhost config appropriately, moving all the modx files to /var/www/modx, updating all the paths in the config files, and restarting apache, I could and can view the site, but I cannot access the manager. Instead, I get a 500 error.
The only log entries created when I visit mysite.com/manager is apache's access.log. Nothing is added to apache's error log and there are no error logs for php, even though I have enabled logging in the php.ini file that phpinfo() says is being processed. I'm not a sysadmin and I've tried everything I can think of, but I have two mysteries: 1) why doesn't this error show up in any logs, 2) how can I fix it?
Is there anything about modx that might account for this?
