My programmer and I have spent days evaluating various self-hosted options for project management, and while we've found some that are ok, it's usually, "Well, if we install it and customize this and this and this..."

I keep feeling there has to be some way to build a simple system with MODx. Right now, all we really need is Projects / Milestones / Tasks. I know I could do that easily with Resources and child resources and various template variables, but that doesn't seem like the "right" way to do it as we'd eventually end up with hundreds of items. I feel like I'm missing something obvious, like maybe the right combo of Extras.

Right now, my programmer is going through http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/project-management testing out various options.

I'm preferring to go with this thought: http://modx.com/can-modx-do-this.html smiley

So far, as far as I've gotten is having the CMPGenerator page open in a tab...

Ideas? I really cringe at the idea of her finding a perfect Wordpress solution. ;-)
If there's a better way to do it, I'll find it.

Perhaps you can have Projects as Resources, Milestones as Subresources and its Tasks in a Custom-Table.

They can be managed by MIGXdb as a TV. Its also possible to create a CMP with help MIGXdb where you have an overview about all tasks, can filter by projects, by status, by milestones, move tasks to other milestones and so on.

you could als create another table for task-related comments and manage them in another MIGXdb grid, which is inside of the task-manager-editor-window.

Additional, you can create Tasks, Comments from Frontend with help of Formit/formit2db-hook.

      Just ideas. Possible, of Course.
