You can use Articles for a product catalogue, and it's probably much better to do that compared to throwing them all in the tree.

You can do categories using an Auto-tag TV and tagLister + getResourcesTag.

Thanks Mark, I will give it a go. This is an ecommerce solution I'm looking at developing so the catalogue would be integrated with a cart system. I'd be interested to know what your preferred approach would be.

        Hi people,

I've created a catalogue that uses getresources and pages in the tree. I can order them by moving the order in the tree.

It works but I can't do 2 a product in multiple categories unless I dupe the resource.

        Is there another way?

        Check out: http://www.breakawaydistributing.com/

Thanks. I'd be interested in comments.

you can store all resources under one tree-node, if you want to use resources
          and create a connection-table which connects category-resources with product-resources.

its possible to manage them in your category-resources by a custom - MIGXdb-TV-setup

the same is possible when your products are in a custom-table
            -------------------------------

you can buy me a beer, if you like MIGX

            Thanks!

            yikes!

I would't even know where to start this at Bruno17. I'am a designer and I can't code php. Would it be better to begin over with articles instead of pages? Can any one take a look. I am pulling both the pages title and 2 tvs for the image and logo.

Am I on the right track?

              There's not enough documentation AFAIK.
              What's needed is:
              1 table containing all categories
              1 table containing all products
Above is a 1-many relationship, each category can have multiple products, and any product can be related to multiple categories
What's needed is documentation of how to configure a 1-M table relationship in migxdb such that products can be in multiple categories
Then what's needed is how to list the table of categories as a menu list
Then what's needed is how to have the category menu item when clicked show all the products associated with category
migx / migxdb documentation should include the above as soon as possible
then it would not be necessary to have duplicate product entries, one never wants this

              Thank you, Tom

                Tom,
Do you me me or in general?

This is way beyond me. This is what I was mentioning in another post and ecommerce and MODX next to impossible for designers.

General description of what one must do to have a working product catalog in MIGx, db, whatever.

It's do-able but the how is more arcane than most people can figure what to do with un-documented or poorly documented addons. MIGx' developer is very good at programming, not so good at documenting.

One of MODx' biggest weaknesses as a very young CMS is the lack of properly written documentation for the various addons etc., it is unfortunately a niche CMS primarily for developers and maybe some people who haven't finished reading slashdot. smiley smiley

                    Thank you Tom,

What about using something like miniShop?
