    Is anyone running modx 2.2+ on a mediatemple DV 3.5 or 4 server? I have nearly a dozen modx sites on my dvs an all are suffering very slow pages before being cached. from 3-4 seconds all the way up to 12 seconds.

    I've actually been trying to track down the issue for a while now, but now a couple of clients are forcing the issue.. I really don't want to leave MT, but it's starting to look like that is the way things are going to go ...

    If you have a site running on a DV at MT please let me know, I really need some help sorting this out.

    -thanks
    -sean

      I don't know if it will help you any, but I do work with a client using 2.1.3 on a DV 4 server. We switched it over to use fastcgi which helped some, granted it was a royal pain to get working properly. The main reason we haven't dared to upgrade it to 2.2.x, don't need another two week ordeal...

      Hope that helps some

        Sean,

        I have 16 sites running on (mt) DV 3.5. 6 sites are MODX 2.2.1

        I haven't experienced the issues you described. Let me know how I can help.

          I'm pretty convinced that it is something to do with the environment, have you made any changes to the php.ini, my.cnf or any apache configs [extra loaded modules?] how much Ram do you have ~ mine is at the 3G max.
          I've done quite a bit of apache hardening... [mod_security, blockhosts etc]

            I did a fair amount of work getting modx to run under fastcgi, found it's not really worth the effort for the performance to resource usage trade off.... btw - that is the default for php on DV4s now...

            but are you seeing slow page loads before they get cached?

              I have 32gb mem for PHP, no addl mods to any conf file.

              I definitely don't have fastcgi. I've read somewhere (possibly here on the MODX forums) that it causes issues. I just looked at my server environment (never hurts to refresh my memory - the one in my head) and didn't see fastcgi.

              I don't see slow page loads. Overall I think Revo is slower than Evo. I've changed my context settings to `session_enabled=0` via the info from the Developer's blog:
              http://develop.modx.com/blog/2012/04/05/new-for-2.2.1-session-less-contexts/

              Let me know if you have more questions. I'm in and out today so be patient. Hopefully others smarter than me can chime in with answers before you switch hosts. I know what it's like waiting for (mt) to answer questions. I don't have 20 hours to wait. That's 20 days in internet time.

                BTW: a thought just occurred to me: have you restarted Apache?

                  It sounds like you are using cgi then, which has its own issues. You might want to read http://boomshadow.net/tech/php-handlers/

                  If you have a shared hosting environment you want suphp or fastcgi IMO. Technically dso is the fastest option, but modx needs php run as the user so it's not practical without some changes.

                  The slow speeds are regardless of cache if I recall correctly. I will check when I get home Monday.

                      Thanks guys;

                      I've run this through xdebug/cachegrinder and found that it's definitely wayfinder &/or getResources that are causing the issue, even on sites that have small menus.. I'm pretty convinved that has something to do with php & xpdo/mysql - I may try updating that module and see what happens. [pdo_mysql.so & pdo.so]

                      I've tested running it [php] as both a cgi & an apache module. No difference either way.

                      @UltraSEF
                      If you have a DV3/3.5 server you can install fastCGI pretty easily MT has a knowledgebase article on it; http://kb.mediatemple.net/questions/1890/%28dv%29+How+do+I+enable+FastCGI%3F#dv_40

                      If you are DV4... fastCGI is the default wink

                      @AMDbuilder
                      Technically the environment is shared, but It's only myself and one other trusted developer on that box ~ so I have a pretty good handle on what goes on. smiley
