    Hey guys,

    Alright, I'm creating a website for a friend in my spare time. I plan on using Revo for the site development. I want it to be a kind of community based site, there might be better options for community sites rather than MODx, but I like the challenge and want to push myself a bit.

    Here's a design preview of what I had in mind:

    So, I need some advice on doing forums and user profiles.

    • What forum is easiest to integrate with MODx?
    • When registering, should I let MODx do everything and then push the user to the forum or vice versa?
    • Should I use the forum's built in stuff to manage profiles, or create something from scratch?
    • Looking to use sekUserGalleries for the Galleries page, anybody have any experience or know where I might run in to some snags with the general setup of this?

    I'm sure there are other things I'll think about later, but that gets the major concerns out of the way for now.

    Thanks guys,
    Bixby

      I've integrated Revo with Vanilla using SSO and iframing the forum within a MODX-profile controlled page. It's not pretty, and it's not fun. I don't, however, go into the forum to display a list of latest contributions on non-forum pages, so it's only integrated on sign-on, really.

      The MODX user profile doesn't come with things you're likely to want (avatar, sig etc), so it's your call whether to extend the user class or work with the forum one.

      Either way you'll want to get familiar with this:

        Writer > E-consultant > MODx developer || Salesforce || modx 2.x || PHP 5.2.13 || MySQL client 5.0.86

        Thanks for the advice dude, I'll give Vanilla a go later tonight; as for the users not sure how I'm going to handle that right now.

          Being a former hardcore gamer/clan member/founder - I love your design and site and would LOVE to see a gaming/clan site built with MODX Revo. But speaking of forums - is Discuss even an open source forum for end users? (Guess this is an answer that only the MODX Core can answer)

            Yeah, Discuss would make the whole process much smoother, not going to worry about it for now though, it'll be released when it's ready is my guess.
