Help with Date TV

I created a Date TV and selected Date Formatter widget set to %m-%d-%Y.

On the page I typed in the date 12-10-1797 into the Date TV.

When the page is displayed it returns 12-31-1969.

I've changed the date to 01-01-1737 but page still displays 12-31-1969.

The dates I will have are all prior to the 1900s. How can I make the Date Formatter display the correct date?

I don't know how to fix that, but 1970 is the date where UNIXTIME start to count, see this for example: http://drupal.org/node/46517#comment-87332

Unixtime didn't start until 01/01/1970 so I think any date before that will not work

Thanks all. I decided to do a custom solution - there are other reasons behind the decision besides the historic date issues. Was trying to avoid the inevitable I guess.
