Hi,
I did full backup of my modx website via ftp.
Can I restore resources/document only from backup on my new installation ? New install has everything same in terms of structure and template.
Thanks
Sintls
Just re-read your question - I'll leave my original answer below because I think it explains things reasonably well. But to answer your question (and guessing a little about what you have done) No you can not restore from a ftp backup alone. You need at least some of the database tables, and possibly none of the ftp backup (depending on whether you store any of your resources, templates and css as static files)
The resources can be in the database or stored as files. Even if they are stored as files (static resources) where they are is stored in the database. So you need a backup (dump) of your database as well as a 'backup via ftp' *
So to do a restore you need:
a backup of the database
and
a backup of any assets - images, css, 'static' files etc (could be resources, templates, css, scripts, images - anything!) stored as files on your server.
* in fact you only need a partial backup via ftp - what you need depends on where you put things. If you just put files you add into an 'assets' directory you only need to backup the assets directory and of course the database backup. Oh and you may need the config file - or just recreate it.
thanks for putting an explanation, first off all I am no good at coding (detail technical) but modx is fairly easily to work when you have template created.
What i did with my site was something wrong and it went down and totally non recoverable. So I deleted everything and re-installed. ( I presume I should have come here before doing all this to save myself)
I did ftp backup, I did sql export of database via myphpadmin. But it only gave all sort of sql queries so i thought the database backup did not happen. I still have the queries but since i am worried that something wrong happened in back end i thought those sql queries are of no use.
All I want is to re-create the resources.
let me know if i can salvage the resources I wrote. In respect to config file I did not create backup of that.
In advance thanks for help
Normally, you back up the DB by "exporting" it to an SQL file on your local machine. If you have such a file, the resources are in there (in the modx_site_content table) but it will be a little tricky to recover them.
If you used a difference database name or table prefix when you re-installed, your resources are probably still in the old DB.
Otherwise, I'm afraid you may be out of luck.
