Answered Some placeholders in MODx system settings - where do the values come from?

    In the MODx Revo system settings there are some "placeholders" (?):

    {assets_path}
{core_path}
{http_host}


    I wonder where the values of these placeholders come from and if there is a complete list for reference?

      They come from the system configuration settings; these particular ones probably originally come from the config files rather than from the database. I don't know if you can use them all in your own settings or not.

        Hi Susan - thanks for the fast response!

        In the MODx system settings I can't find an entry for the values I posted - also the WIKI page you sent me has no reference to these settings. So are you sure these values are from the MODx system settings?

        And aren't system settings normally accessed like this:

        [[++setting_key]]


        Now I'm confused...

          Within the Configuration editing tool that syntax is the one used. The actual values come from the config.inc.php file and are set at install-time, but how they get into the form used there I don't know.

            When Settings (System or Context) are loaded, any references to existing settings using the curly braces will be replaced when they are loaded. Other normal tags within the values are meant to be evaluated later, not when loaded.

              There are a number of pseudo System Settings that don't appear in the System Settings grid because changing them is so dangerous. Some come from config.inc.php, some are calculated from the $_SERVER array.

              In page content they're displayed with tags, but in the Manager grids, they're entered in the {setting_name} form. The tag parser doesn't execute in the Manager (if it did, you wouldn't see any tags in your elements and resources). I think the {setting_name} tags are replaced with str_replace() or preg_replace() whenever the setting is used.
