Hi all,
I'm brand new to MODx today! I just spent the day poking about, reading countless forum threads, articles, guides and so on and starting to build up a page in MODx. So far i have my basic homepage build up and Wayfinder in place (with some modifications) displaying my menu as it should, with drop downs etc. And generally i'm liking it all so far
I'm at the point though where i could do with some assistance from the knowlegable folks around here. Possibly just to explain the terminology to me so i can get my head in the right place.
So my first issue is, i want to have some editable areas on my home page.
TV's instantly spring to mind but they appear to only be a one time deal (as in one line of content or one input box each). What i'm looking to achive (being mindful of making it easy enough for a customer to edit in the manager without having to delve deep in to elements) is kind of little chunks that have multiple inputs to fill them up...
Of course my mind turned to chunks in MODx, but they appear to be more of a back end thing (as they dont appear editable in the resources tree... unless i'm fully missing the point!!)
Imagine each area is to be a div. Inside that div needs to be a link (the path of which to be defineable in the manager) and inside each link goes a span with some text (again text muct be editable) and also and image..again, editable.
I have come to MODx from perch, which is of course wildly different! But it had a solution for this called repeating regions. Basically i define that chunk of html and define each of the bits i want to be editable (so the href of the link, text inside the span tags and src for the image) and then i can say "make 4 of those!" and each one in the manager shows as a group of 3 input fields.
I used a similar approach to make a jQuery slider i have been using editable, making multiple copies of the list elements with a set of editable fields to flesh each one out.
I'm guessing its not going to be as simple as that due to the more complex nature of MODx but a shove in the right direction or any advice / tips from you guys would be highly appreciated :^)
And sorry for my hugely long winded post! I do tend to ramble a bit!
