Wow. Been using modx for about 2 years now, however I am still hopelessly lost when it comes to ACLs. I tried following a tutorial on http://bmv-interactive.com/home/modx-acl-tutorial.html to setup a new editor user group which will be able to edit only one set of resources within modx (blogs section).

So I created a user called "Rep". and gave it a user group called "Reps". And i setup the ACLs according to the tutorial above, trying to give them editor access.

All went fine, then I came to "Resource Groups" section where I drag the resources from right side into the user group. After I did this, the resources just disappeared! Now, logged in as admin i cannot see them in the manager, on the front end they do not come up either!?!

What have I done and how to fix it? I must say, playing with ACLs is a bit of a mindf**k to put it mildly. I understand this level of complexity is needed, however this seriously needs simplification. I'm an online developer with a few years under my belt and I'm having issues with it after 2 years of modx use, I presume most newcomers to modx will see this and run as fast as they can.

I think a system is needed which will allow users to quickly setup a user and give them access rights to a limited number of resources without having to jump through hoops, however for those wishing to have finer grained control, tutorial above should apply and they can spend their days setting up resource groups and ACLs until they are blue in their face.

I understand modx team did a very good job of the security tab in revo, my only gripe is that us mere mortals find it overly complex for our needs. Reminds me of NTFS permissions on a windows system. No matter how much I hear of its coolness i still think it is overly complex and counter-logical for my poor brain.

Well, to solve, I elevated my Reps user group to have full super user rights.
Then once logged in as "Rep" I could see my lost resources in the list.
I had to unassign each resource from my newly created group under "access permissions"
After this the resources showed under front end and back end again.

It would appear I have unintentionally moved where these resources belong to. I was under the impression everything under Admin will stay under admin unless i specifically remove this acl?
