I am temporariily running a redirect on the exisiting index.php page and have created a duplicate page called ss-index.php to run Modx - where in the config file can I set preferences to run off of this page rather than the default index.php page - so that menu links are now linking from the fake index page.

    Thanks

I think you’ll have a lot more luck running modx in a subdirectory. I don’t think you can do what you’re asking ... at least not in 096 or below.

Yeah - I copied all the files to /dev

-since the root files and the dev directory are running off of the same database will both update simulataneously?

Actually, you can name the index.php whatever you want; just reflect those changes in your RewriteRule for MODx if using friendly URLs and you’ll be good to go.
