    Ok - so I've managed to customise my new user form (using the custom manager theme method), with custom fields that get stored as Extended fields in the user Profile.

    What I can't figure out is how to do the 'update' process.
    In the update file (/manager/controllers/security/user/update.php) , I can see this:
            /* parse extended data, if existent */
            $this->user->getOne('Profile');
            if ($this->user->Profile) {
                $this->extendedFields = array();
                $extendedData = $this->user->Profile->get('extended');
                if (!empty($extendedData)) {
                    $this->extendedFields = $this->_parseCustomData($extendedData);
                }
    }

    So I can see that the extended fields are being fetched.

    What I can't work out is how the 'general' fields get collected and sent to modx.panel.user.js

    I had hoped to simply appended selected extended fields to the array:
    eg
    $placeholders['Company'] = $foo;

    (having got $foo while the extended fields bit above is doing it's thing, but I'm getting lost.....

      I'm trying a different approach - replacing the Extended Fields tree control with a form. I'm still faced with the same problem though.

      There's a JSON object sent as CDATA to the page - how do I access any of the values?

      Or failing that - is there a simple way to display what is currently a tree as something more user friendly? I don't want to add any more extended fields - EVER - for this app. So all I want is another layout.

      Sigh.
