Hi, I'm at the final stages of completing a first site as a newbie to modx revo 2.2.0pl, and last task being to add a new user, setting their permissions. No trouble at all as i worked thru the default list of permissions set for Content_Editor. However, i just made my last change to see what it does and now going to site/manager brings up a white screen with access denied on it!
The last settings in the users permissions that i changed where-
home - view welcome page (i un-checked it)
menu_support - help menu (i uncheked it)
Every time i update settings i then save them, and clear the site cache as i believe this is something i'm supposed to do. Really really worried here! any suggestions or help greatly appreciated.
I have done a test for you, I locked out myself, then I opened the database and changed the setting there, I can login again now.
1. Open the database (for example with Phpmyadmin)
2. Go to "revolution_access_policies"
3. Edit the Policy you just changed, mine was "Administrator"
4. In the "Data" Row there is lot of stuff, search there "home" parameter and change false to true.
5. Save, clear the browser's cache and try to login again.
Btw, I think it is a good idea to test permissions in another account, never change Administrator Policy directly, duplicate it, and never change permissions in your admin account (at least until you finish the test on another account).
Ok, before i can even think about your second comment i'm still reading your first reply (& thanks for the response!) but upon making the change as you suggested (i've located phpmyadmin & gone to access_policies / well it shows for me as username_access_policies) and made the change to "home" from false to true, but no change. I've refreshed the url/ page of .../manager and still get a white screen reading 'error access denied'
So still have zero ability to login. Really worried here that i can't get into the manager
Not just refresh, delete che cache of your browser. It should work.
Edit: sorry, revolution_ was my database prefix!
Wow, thanks for that!! I nearly had a stroke, i can't thank you enough (what a crazy setting to have, but then it would be to me as i'm no developer/ programmer, more visual design orientated just getting to grips with modx).
I certainly won't go near that setting again and take on board what you say about testing permissions in another account, i'm going to study that. I just wanted to remove the tab within the resource editor of my new user which shows top right, 'duplicate' and the icon to the right of it 'add another'. I successfully managed to remove these options everywhere else in the editor, but they're still showing here.
Thanks again for sharing your knowledge and experience with me, you've helped someone to sleep tonight
