I had gone through all my templates & associated chunks previously & removed whatever no-cache bangs I could find, with marginal results. Right now I am consolidating whatever chunks I can into single calls. So far the results with this are much better than working with the cache.

The homepage is still loading from the database in around 8 - 10 seconds [mild improvement] but most pages are loading from cache in under 2 seconds on average.

Curiously enough the biggest bump I've had so far was consolidating the footer chunks & html into one call, almost 2s load time difference.. ad most strangely, neither chunk had any processing, both were static html!?

I don't know what to think about that... will post the new template soon, have one more thing to try + implementing Mark & Bruno's suggestions [very interesting - thanks guys!]

Sean, if you want I can have a quick look into your manager next week to see if I can spot any bottlenecks, send over login details to mark at modx.com and I'll let you know if I can find anything.

8-10 seconds is simply not acceptable and I can't think of many scenarios where something like that would be expected. There is of course some overhead in using multiple chunks, but that really shouldn't be noticable.

Here is what the templates are looking like now:

The home page is still taking close to 10 seconds to load from database, but everything coming from cache is generally under 2s now. [indicating to me that there is still something being called unached!!]

Possibly something in one of those chunks? An easy way to see what's uncached is by opening its cache file (be warned, they're quite big tongue) in core/cache/resource/web/resources/x.cache.php.

Find the "_content" index there which contains the entire output with cached tags parsed, but uncached or tags that could not be processed remaining in place.

I was just actually gonna run a query on the database for '!' :p

OK, getting more than a little frustrated with this [this is all my modx sites]

Just provisioned a new DV4 server at MediaTemple thinking that updated php/apache/mysql would help the speed issue. No improvement at all, I have plain pages that are loading in like 4 seconds before being cached.

I don't want to leave MediaTemple... is there some 'requirements' documentation somewhere that lays out what php configs need to be set [or unset] required loaded php/apache modules [or known conflicts?]

[the new environment is centos 64/php 5.3.5]

BTW, I get about 1000 of these on a single page load:

                  [2012-04-19 16:27:28] (DEBUG @ /index.php) Language string not found: ""

I've heard issues with MT before, but don't have any first hand experience with it myself.

                    Reqs are here: http://develop.modx.com/develop/revolution/requirements/

Everything checks out there - are there any 'known issues' with any apache modules/php extensions etc? any recommended tweaks to be done to my.cnf/php.ini
