One of our clients uses MODX Revo 2.2.0-pl2 on Internet Explorer 8 / Windows XP in a large business environment. The manager won't load properly: the tree is not loaded and the content area is not visible. (see attachment).

    The following errors come up:
    - 'prototype' is empty or not an object
    - 'constructor' is empty or not an object
    - 'undefined' is empty or not an object
    - 'MODx.grid.multiTVgrid.superclass.constructor' is empty or not an object
    - and so on.

    And also:

    Bericht: Object expected
    Regel: 7
    Teken: 132790
    Code: 0
    URI: http://www.xxxx.nl/manager/assets/ext3/ext-all.js

Bericht: 'Ext.getCmp(...)' is empty or not an object
    Regel: 2676
    Teken: 5
    Code: 0
    URI: http://www.xxxx.nl/manager/index.php?id=133&a=55&class_key=modDocument&parent=133&template=7&context_key=web

The system admin added the domain to the trusted domains list, but the errors still occur.

I also found this in the bugtracker: http://tracker.modx.com/issues/6939, it could be the same issue.

We tested the Manager in IE8 on our own computer and it works fine. It seems to be related to the environment that is setup at our clients office. We also found out that ExtJS is calling home to ExtJS.com but we already changed it to a local file, following this explanation: http://www.sencha.com/learn/general-questions/ (see second heading). (we did this to prevent problems with the external site not being trusted).

We also tested the site over there on an unmanaged standalone version of Chrome on the same computer that gives the IE8 errors, and on Chrome the Manager works properly. So it's only IE8 with their specific system/network settings.

Anyone got a clue what could be the problem? Are there specific settings that the system admin could change to make MODX work in IE8? We would really appreciate your help! [ed. note: michelle84 last edited this post 14 years, 7 months ago.]

Hi there. After some investigation we found out that it could possibly have something to do with the version of Java (an old version) that is installed on the pc of the client. We continue our search monday, so than we could tell more about if it has to do something with Java.

My question for now is; can anybody confirm (or disprove) that the problems I describe above has to do something with Java?

Don't have anything that runs XP/IE8 here anymore (the only comp that *may* be running XP has recently died), so can't test that specific set up myself. As far as I know there's no Java involved in ExtJS.

Using IE9 in IE7 mode does give me a functional manager (latest from git, 2.2.2-dev), though I have to admit it aint too pretty compared to what I'm used to in Chrome. tongue

Is it a possibility to set up the latest nightly in the environments that have the issue and to verify it does/doesn't work there?

EDIT: Just did a bit of a google and ended up on the ExtJS forums here: http://www.sencha.com/forum/showthread.php?100792-INFOREQ-1032-IE8-browser-detection-problem-on-intranet/page4
Can you check the classes set on the body tag using dev tools? [ed. note: markh last edited this post 14 years, 6 months ago.]
