I need to create a glossary of terms. These terms will be found throughout the site (nautical in nature), and need to be easily linked back to the definition.

If I use SiteA-Z, it seems as if I'll have to create a resource for each term and I don't fully understand if my result will be a one page listing or if each term would have it's own page. If I use EZfaq the user will have to look through to find the term in question on the glossary page, detracting from their reading flow in the other page. With FAQ Manager, again I've got a page of terms and definitions, but no ID or direct link to a specific term (that I know of).

What I need is a direct link to the term itself with it's definition on the glossary output page (preferable to a single page with one term and definition). Or perhaps a popup that would display the specific glossary term and definition. Once the terms are in the site, there should not be too many additions needed but let's say there were for kicks and giggles. In this case, I would prefer to have a simple way for site managers to add new terms and definitions.

I've read through a number of threads that discuss glossaries but am still confused and not quite sure where to start. Many of the threads speak of Ditto, which I know nothing about in any way, so the solutions there aren't so helpful.

    Thanks for any help.

Simplest, but most labour intensive, is to create a resource for each glossary item, in a folder called Glossary. The other advantage of that model is that it's easy for content admins to understand (in both creating new items and linking to existing items), and you can vary the level of detail in your definition. If you particularly want to, you could strip down the number of options of things to fill in on that page.

If you need to list your Glossary (as an index) you would then use getResources and getPage (for Revo, anyway) to create an index page in the Glossary container resource.

The much more elegant way would be to create a glossary table, and use a Plugin event to search new pages for glossary items and inject the definition into a modal window or tooltip. But sledgehammers, nuts.

All that said, I've not used a glossary myself (although I do have text buckets for similar things like testimonials etc)

I can't think of a good solution. It's quite wasteful to use an entire resource for each entry, but that would let you use SiteAtoZ to present them and users could just create a new resource for any new entry and it would show up in the right place.

Using EZfaq, would be much more efficient and faster, but you'd have to create a jump list at the top and put anchors throughout (and "back to top" links). You'd only have to do that once, though. New entries would have to be added in place, but that's not all that difficult.

BTW, IIRC SiteAtoZ creates the jump list, the anchors, and the "back to top:" links dynamically, so you might be able to use that code to process the EZfaq content before showing it.

I haven't used FAQ manager, so I can't speak to that.
