How do you make custom urls for each page? Now most of my web site has pages that end in something like index.php?id=45 from my main menu (list), whereas I want them to end in /about-us/ or something. How do I do this? Apparently if I type in those lines manually, they work; but they just don't appear in the menu.
Thanks!

You have to turn on Friendly URLs in your site configuration, and make sure the default ht.access file is reamed to .htaccess in the web root. Then you'll need to clear the cache to make sure all menus are updated.
If you use FURL's , you have to set the alias of the resource (or set the system settings to set them automaticallly) and then the alias is used instead of ID, I believe if alias is empty the ID still used and displayed...
Cheers
I tried changing the .htaccess file and my website got a 500 internal server error. It took a while to delete the file because I didn't know it was hidden. Is there any other way to do this without using the htaccess?

What exactly did you change in the .htaccess file? And did you then delete it? To use FURL's you'll have to use the .htaccess file (should probably have one regardless, deleting it really isn't the best solution).
Did you un-comment the register_globals in the file? Some servers do not allow this (returns error) in the .htaccess file so it has to be set in the php.ini instead. Also, even a slight mistake/typo, or "not allowed by your server" code in the .htaccess can cause a 500 server error.
To get FURLS to work, you need to rewrite the MODX generated urls, that's where the .htaccess and mod rewrite are essential. You'll also want to tun FURL's on in the MODX system settings.
If you showed us what your .htaccess file looks like the problem might be identified.
What environment are you running this installation of MODX on? What version of MODX?
