    Hi,

I have developed a modx site (site B) that needs to connect with another website (site A) i.e only members of site A can only see site B

Installing the modx site onto Site Bis not an option, so is there any other way around this?

I can limit the incoming traffic on site B with a .htacess rule to only come from Site A, but anyone would still be able to manually type in the URLs

So you want to authenticate the users of site B against a user table in site A? Are they both running MODX?

Can you / would you want to iframe site B within site A?(it's not perfect but it's a start).

Thinking about it, if you're limiting access by http_referrer, then they _can't_ type in the address directly, can they? (I genuinely don't know)

thanks for the reply - if I block empty referrals as well then they could not type it in URLs directly, but I have be warned against doing this.. i think because things like company firewalls can remove all referral headers.

There are not both running modx. Site A is a custom build.

iframing is a interesting idea! can you iframe a whole site?

another option would be to export the modx site to static html files and then just send them over to site A - but, not really sure how to do this with modx.

I can't think of anything that isn't hideously clunky or well beyond my technical knowhow, but it seems to me if you can't handle the handshake between the two sites (or move to another SSO mechanism like Oauth etc), it would be best to move the content.

You can export your MODX data from the database to a csv (and then run a script to rebuild it or import it into whatever's running site A), or go old-school and WebWhacker it.

haha! sorry, i think the iframe is really simple and works well - can't really see any downsides...
