    Hi smiley

I have been happily using your CMS for a while now in building my little project website http://www.information-emporium.co.cc/ .

I'll just get this out the way:
    - I use HostGator's Hatchling plan for hosting
    - I use co.cc for domain
    - I use MODx for building

I have, as I said at the beginning of this post, been happily building my website without any query - up until today that is.

If you navigate to my website, you will most surely be greeted with a 404 message. I'm not stupid when it comes to tech, but web design and hosting is still something I am learning - and I know that a 404 message means pretty much the page can't be found.

Friday last week (2nd March) I changed by HostGator password, it all went okay and everything seemed to be fine. Over the weekend I have just been spending time uploading to my server via the FTP client Filezilla.

It was today that I went to access my website and was greeted by the lovely 404 message (should note that it is not the host-gator 404 message). Curious I checked back at my FTP client, and yes I can still log in, and see all of my files. I try to access modx via "domain.co.cc/manager" - enter my credentials (which I know are right, I've entered them 100 times before) - to get a log-in error (username/password not found). If i direct-link an image (example http://information-emporium.co.cc/images/banner-compsoft.jpg) I can view it as normal.

Maybe I have missed something out somewhere, if i changed my HostGator password (which also changes my FTP password, among other things) is there something I need to change with MODx?

I'm very confused right now :/

I don't see any security alerts but. I'd look at whether or not changing your password may have altered your database password. Your manager is accessible. Have you been able to edit or change resources in your manager? If so the db is not the problem. You may need to confirm that your index.php file is there. I'd also check to make sure you're .htaccess is still there and is not altered in any way. There are no known vulnerabilities for Revolution (although the version you are using needs to be updated).

        Best of luck,

          Malware?

Huh, that's the first I've heard of it.... I didn't realise my website was harbouring malware. And I'm unsure how you got it to respond to give you malware..

I have just used Sucuri's website scanner on my domain (http://sitecheck.sucuri.net/scanner/) - and yes it does come back 'okay' - but thats because it can't establish a connection.

I have just talked to a rep. from HostGator and they have told me that it is likely to be an issue regarding my PHP file, as html files seem to appear just fine.

I've tried the forced/manual password reset using myPHPadmin & the MD5 hash password reset query. But that hasn't worked in the sense it won't let me in, however it did work in the sense that it has changed the values of the 'modx-users' table.

God I am so confused, all I've done is change my hosting password... and now nothing seems to work.

            Hello,

Could you try upgrading the website?

Basically upload a new copy of all of the files (leave current ones in place), then choosing upgrade when running the setup.

If you still have problems afterwords could you report back with the contents of your .htaccess file (try renaming to ht.access or off.htaccess to see if that helps first), also did you enable FURLs in the site settings?

(sorry about this being late, I have been really busy recently and haven't had the chance to sort this out)

I've gone to upgrade modx, and every seemed to go fine except before installation i get this error

              "Database connection failed!"

Is this most likely due to me not being able to log in properly? (i.e. manager doesn't accept my credentials)?

                "Database connection failed!"
means exactly what it says which in turn means that one or more of the following are incorrect:
                database server
                database name
                database user name
password (for the database user - not the same as the ftp password or the modx manager password unless you used the same password when creating them)

Is this most likely due to me not being able to log in properly? (i.e. manager doesn't accept my credentials)?
Your manager credentials are stored in the database - if your database cannot be connected to then you will not be able to log in.

the settings for the database login are in core/config/config.inc.php (assuming you have not moved it)
the setup pages can set/change these values

The password and user name in the config.inc.php file are only for the connection to the database. They are different from the Manager username and password (which is stored as a hash value in the MODX database.

If your Manager password doesn't work and the "Forgot Password" link doesn't work, one method is to just create another install of MODX somewhere, make sure you can log in to the Manager, then go into PhpMyAdmin and cut and paste the values for the admin user in the modx_users table from the new site to the broken one.

                    Hi Bob

So shall if I install modx into another area (I have backed up everything before I tried the upgrade)?

When you say about cutting and pasting the values for the admin user via myPHPadmin - does this mean I will still have all my work so far (pages, elements, templates, variables, snippets)?

                    Many thanks

                    Dan

                      To amplify/explain BobRay's post a little:
the point of creating a new separate modx install is to create a hashed manager password (that is stored in the modx database) for a known password that can then be pasted into your old database to allow access with the new known password. Note I believe (but don't have to time to check) that the latest versions of revo use a salted hash which may complicate things a little, I seem to remember changing the password system back to md5 hash (a setting in the database), changing the password in the database, logging in, changing the password system back to the salted version and making a new admin account - it was awhile ago so details are hazy.

You only need to do this if the password recovery is not working (from the login page).

I think however you have other problems since the link you provided gives me a generic "Page not found" and not the home page. And if I try http://www.information-emporium.co.cc/manager I get:
Fatal error: Call to a member function get() on a non-object in /home/deadevil/public_html/core/model/modx/modmanagerresponse.class.php on line 41
                      which is a php error.

You also still have the setup directory in place which is probably not a good idea (though without the proper database credentials one can't do too much I don't think - I'm not a 'hacker' so I may be wrong!)
